Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 49-year-old male. I have been suffering from fever and chills for one week. I started on antibiotics, Novoclox.
I had two tablets, and the next day, I had rashes on my body. Hence, I started taking Cetirizine once daily. The fever and rash have subsided now.
This morning, I had alcohol and non-vegetarian food. In the afternoon, again, I started developing a fever and chill. My last recorded body temperature was 215°F.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The history of fever with chills, along with rashes, suggests a differential diagnosis of malaria and a wide variety of viral fevers. The fever of malaria classically comes in phases, once every two or three days, along with chills and rigors. The history of alcohol and non-vegetarian food consumption does not appear to be contributory.
I would suggest you get a complete blood count and a peripheral smear for malaria. In the meantime, continue Crocin 500 mg (Acetaminophen) thrice daily and drink lots of fluids. Also, during fever spike a wet cloth on the forehead and armpits would help.
Thank you and take care.
Patient's Query
Thank you, doctor, for the reply.
I also have body aches and nausea. Shall I continue to take Novoclox and Cetirizine?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Yes, you must. I suggest you add tablet Nexpro Fast 40 mg (Esomeprazole) once daily. It will take care of the nausea and gastritis.
Bone pains shall persist till the fever subsides, but you will get better with NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Diclofenac. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicine with consent.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
