Is surgery necessary to conceive with intramural fibroids?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 35-year-old female and do not have children. I have two intramural fibroids of 0.9 inches in size, putting pressure on the cavity. The doctor suggested a laparoscopic myomectomy along with the removal of chocolate cysts on the ovary. I want a second opinion.

  1. Is surgery necessary?
  2. How long should I wait to conceive after surgery?
  3. Is the reduction of the size of the tumor necessary before surgery?

Kindly guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and understood your concern. It is better to go for surgery because it will increase the chances of pregnancy, and it is better to reduce the size of the tumor because it causes pressure on the uterine cavity. You can wait for three months after surgery to conceive again.

Thank you and take care.
