Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I feel I have folliculitis in the vaginal area, and it is not only causing pain but also extreme itching. Can I use a topical antibiotic cream?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. You have mentioned that currently you are having folliculitis in the vaginal area and a similar lesion was also present last year. So in comparing both you can easily make out a diagnosis and confirm it to be folliculitis only. You can add a picture if it is possible and if you are comfortable, in case the diagnosis is not clear. Please answer the following questions:

1 For how long have you been having the symptoms?

2 Is folliculitis similar in terms of producing symptoms (severity) compared to last year?

3 How did you treat it? Was the topical antibiotic application enough last year or did you take antibiotics by mouth also?

Yes, you can apply topical antibiotic cream in the area. Take analgesics by mouth two times a day for the pain. Please reply to the above questions to guide you better, mam.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response. The symptoms are the same as they were before. Itching and small pimples are present around the vaginal area. I was prescribed Bactrim DS and it cleared up. This has been a problem for the past few weeks.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can apply Bactrim DS (Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim) cream over the itching area.

If it does not clear up, you may need to take an antibiotic by mouth.

I hope this helps you.

Please follow up if you have any further related queries about it.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
