What are the treatment options for managing frenulum breve?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 28-year-old male who got married two years ago. For the past three to four months, I have been experiencing irritation at the base of the head of my penis, a tight foreskin, and redness, particularly where the foreskin attaches to the head. This occurs after intercourse and takes about four to five days to resolve. It has been happening after each intercourse session for the past three to four months.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suspect that the issues you are mentioning, such as tight foreskin, redness, and irritation at the base of the head of the penis, may be due to a condition called frenulum breve (short frenulum), in which the skinfold attaching the prepuce to the base of the glans is unusually short. The most effective treatment for this condition is a surgical procedure called frenuloplasty. This is a day surgery that can be performed under local anesthesia.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
