How do I manage my GERD with arm and jaw pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had severe pain in my left arm and jaw, along with lightheadedness and a dry mouth, so I decided to get the test done.

Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), and they are normal. This is unlikely to be related to your heart. A similar type of pain can occur with reflux disease. Do you experience bloating, burping, a sour or watery feeling in your mouth, or intermittent chest burning? If yes, this likely indicates reflux-related pain. Even if not, it could still be related to reflux or esophageal spasms.

Therefore, I do not think there is anything to worry about. You should take antacids, such as a Pantoprazole and Domperidone combination, for a week or two. Also, avoid oily, fatty, and spicy foods, as well as smoking and alcohol if applicable. Make sure to exercise regularly and avoid resting immediately after meals; instead, try walking.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
