What causes pressure in my chest, and how can I manage it?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a stress echo four months ago, and it was normal. I also had an ECG last week, which was normal as well. However, I am experiencing some pressure on the left side of my chest and feeling uncomfortable. I am also having frequent burping throughout the day. What should I do now?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This is likely related to acidity and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Also, check if the pressure feeling worsens when you apply pressure to the area; if it does, it may indicate an associated musculoskeletal cause. Therefore, it does not seem to be a worrisome issue.

You should maintain a healthy lifestyle by avoiding fatty, oily, and spicy foods. Avoid heavy meals and instead have multiple small meals. Do not sit or rest immediately after eating; instead, take a 10 to 15-minute walk. Avoid smoking and alcohol, if applicable. Also, try to maintain a normal sleep pattern as much as possible. You should take a prescribed combination of antacids and probiotics, such as Domperidone along with Rabeprazoleor or Domperidone along with Pantoprazole, before breakfast for seven days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
