Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been diagnosed with granular pharyngitis. It all started when I had a very cold ice cream. I had dryness, a little bit of coughing, and a mild fever, but after taking medicine, the cough, dryness in the throat region, and fever were gone. However, I still feel some irritation in my throat, but I do not have any problem swallowing food.
The following are the medicines that I am taking at the moment:
I have been taking these for a week, but it does not feel different. So I need a second opinion because I have had this pharyngitis for about five months and am tired. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concerns.
Prolonged throat symptoms are not common. The possible causes include:
I suggest you send me a picture of your oral cavity or visit an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist to get your throat examined. In case your throat is fine, a blood test will be required. I see that you are taking Nexium (esomeprazole), and Gaviscon (sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate); these medications are for stomach acidity problems, not suitable for you; you should stop them.
For the moment, I recommend warm drinks and avoiding cold drinks. I suggest you try lozenges like Strepsils (2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol, 1.2 mg Amylmetacresol 0.6 mg), or Pectol (vitamin C), after consulting your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
