Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female suffering from excessive hair fall (500 strands). I do not do drugs or smoke. My hair fall is like frontal alopecia with fast receding hairline but the hairline has always been a bit receded since childhood. I have stressful work conditions and irregular menstruation, but no current known medical conditions. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Let me explain everything about hair loss in points.

1. 100-150 hair fall every day are very normal. So you should consider hair fall if the number of hair is more than this.

2. Generalized hair falls in females are mostly due to stress, poor sleep, poor nutrition, and excessive blood loss due to menstruation.

3. Traction alopecia is also common in which female keeps their hair very tight in a certain manner which creates tension in the root and causes hair fall.

4. Straightening and other procedures also cause weakness in roots.

5. Other conditions like fever, typhoid, malaria, and thyroid, also cause hair fall (less common).

Treatment:

1. Have good sleep, food, green vegetables, and fruits.

2. Take iron and multivitamins for at least 3 months.

3. Check your blood hemoglobin. If it shows less, then iron and folic acid supplements should start.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
