Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have substantial focal hair loss. Three blood tests have been taken, and the results are high in SHBG, but normal levels of testosterone. I am not on the contraceptive pill or any other medicine aside from DHEA, which was recently prescribed. DHEA low and proteins are also low. Is there any correlation between these results and my hair loss? Hair loss is entirely on the back of the scalp.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com. Do you have normal DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and estrogen levels? I am asking this since you have elevated SBG (sex hormone-binding globulin). You can have hair loss with excess DHT or estrogen.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply. I have attached my blood test results for your ease of reference. Thank you for your time and I appreciate any insight you can give me.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com. Your current DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) level appears to be within the normal range. It's worth inquiring about the rationale for taking DHEA supplements despite having a normal DHEA level. To ensure a comprehensive assessment, it's important to note that DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and thyroid panel tests are not yet included. Considering this, I recommend obtaining tests for DHT and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), along with free T4 and total T3.
Discuss the usage of DHEA supplements with your doctor, questioning the reasoning behind it. Additionally, have a conversation about taking 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily and proceed with any recommended measures only after obtaining your doctor's consent.
