Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I do not know where else to turn, and I am getting concerned about my health. Recently, I have been experiencing these intense headaches, and sometimes I feel this pounding sensation in my chest. I decided to check my blood pressure at home, and the readings have consistently been higher than what is considered normal. I do not check at the same time but still, they are always 130 or 135 by 90. I am really scared about what this might mean. I have heard about hypertension, but I do not want to self-diagnose. The thing is, I am not sure what steps to take next. Should I be worried about these symptoms, and if it is hypertension, what can I do to manage it? I do not want to neglect my health, but I am feeling a bit lost and anxious about the whole situation.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

This is stage 1 hypertension. Have a fasting lipid profile done, and then a 10-year risk of heart attack will be calculated; if it is more than 10 percent, then antihypertensive medicines will be started along with lifestyle measures. If there is less risk, then lifestyle measures include exercise, a Mediterranean diet, weight reduction, and stress management. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
