My tests show otosclerosis. What is the best treatment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 43-year-old male. I have been suffering from hearing loss for the past year. It is severe in the right ear and average in the left. I am facing many problems in the office due to this.

I visited a doctor and he diagnosed it as otosclerosis after some audio tests. My elder sister has such a problem. She is 23 years older than me. My doctor has advised microsurgery using titanium. What is the best treatment?

Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Otosclerosis is a disease in which the tiny bones of the middle ear become fixed, resulting in hearing loss. Unfortunately, there is no medicine to cure otosclerosis.

There are two options for you. Surgical treatment entails the removal of the stapes with prosthesis replacement. Patients who refuse surgery can be offered a hearing aid.

I hope this helps.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Take care.
