Is it possible for a 27-year-old male to grow taller at this age?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 27-year-old male with a height of 5 feet 7 inches. Is there a scope for further height increase at this age? I read somewhere that the pituitary gland is responsible for secreting HGH hormones, which can do its job until 35 years, and that height can be increased until age 35 if the gland is active. I have also found that there is an X-ray test that determines whether height can be increased or not.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The bones have segments that grow; hence, height increases. The pituitary hormone (growth hormone) acts on the epiphysis (the bone growth segments). Usually, the bones stop growing at puberty or soon after, but usually by age 21. Therefore, it is unlikely that the continued growth hormone administration after that would help. However, these treatments are more likely to accelerate wound and injury healing, reverse the biological and physical effects of aging, and improve physical performance.
