Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My wife has a high platelet count and is diagnosed with mild anisopoikilocytosis, predominantly normocytic with ovalocytes (RBC). Mild WBC leukocytosis is present, and platelets appear increased in the smear.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The increased platelet count in your wife's case seems to be due to reactive thrombocytosis. The iron deficiency anemia can lead to reactive thrombocytosis, and so the platelet count can be high. You need to treat her anemia with ferrous ascorbate tablets or similar medication for a month. The high total count, along with high neutrophils and lymphocytes, needs to be treated by an empirical antibiotic course. Her diabetes is also not controlled well, and with medication, it needs to be controlled. After a week, repeat the CBC to check the total count.
I hope this helps.
