Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex with different massage therapists five times this year. I used condoms every time. Last time, I had sex two months ago, and I had a few symptoms the next month. I had mouth sores, swollen lymph nodes, fever, throat pain, and diarrhea. My HIV test results came negative. I am attaching the test results below for more details. What should I do next? Are the results conclusive? Should I get tested again? Please tell me if there are any specific tests for early detection of HIV.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your anxiety. I appreciate that you used a condom diligently each time. From the attached images (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), the fourth generation test done at 45 days is negative and can be taken as conclusive. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) has a window period of 12 weeks from the last exposure.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I am asking because of curiosity. Are there any other diseases with the same symptoms as HIV?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The symptoms you have mentioned can be seen in multiple other conditions too. Even routine viral infections can present. However, usually, they settle down with symptomatic management.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Please find the attached report. It was taken when I had a fever, mouth sores, and swollen lymph nodes. Can you find anything in this?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The report (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) is normal.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
