Can someone contract HIV from kissing or a handjob?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Do I need post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) after the following exposures: Open mouth or french kissing, handjob and hand masturbation.

Have there been known cases of HIV transmission after such exposures?

Please help.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Kakkar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have noted your concern. There is no risk of HIV transmission from the open mouth or deep kissing or skin to skin contact as in a handjob. They do not qualify as a risk for HIV transmission. Hence there is no need for post-exposure prophylaxis.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
