Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Please suggest the best vitamin to take and cream to use for hot flashes and cystic acne during menopause. I have had this issue for ten years now. I am not taking HRT. I have previously taken Differin, and now I am using Tretinoin cream.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

After menopause age, you should regularly take calcium and vitamin D in your diet.

Take multivitamin A to Z tablets once daily for hot flashes, and eat estrogen-rich foods like soya and nuts to prevent mood swings after menopause.

For acne, I suggest the following.

1. Do not use hair oil and any sticky cream on the face.

2. Avoid oily food, chocolates, and milk products.

3. Avoid dust, and always use sunscreen (above 30 SPF).

4. Do not rub any cream on your face.

5. Do not use any steroid creams.

6. Continue treatment at least for a month.

7. Avoid touching or pressing the acne.

For treatment, I suggest the following.

1. Clindamycin gel. This is more preventive and curative so I tell patients to use it all over the face in the morning.

2. Adapalene gel. I advise using it over acne at night.

3. Tablet Doxycycline 100 mg once a day.

However, please consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
