Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I recently had a semen analysis in preparation for IVF (in vitro fertilization) with my wife. The results indicated a low percentage of normal morphology and a reduced motility index. I will attach the semen analysis results along with this query. My questions are as follows:
I also have a history of intermittent prostatitis. A sperm analysis performed a year ago showed normal results except for sperm morphology.
Please suggest.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
According to your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity), your total motility is normal, but your morphology is low. To improve sperm morphology, avoid heat, chemicals, smoking, and alcohol, and apply a cold compress to the testes daily for five minutes. I recommend taking vitamins C, E, B complex, folic acid, and zinc, and increasing your intake of vegetables and fruits.
Although you mentioned having prostatitis, the report does not indicate an infection. Since you are overweight, it would be beneficial to reduce your weight. Based on this report, ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is not necessary at this stage; conventional IVF (in vitro fertilization) should be sufficient. Additionally, if your morphology improves within three months with the measures mentioned, IUI (intrauterine insemination) could also be considered. If morphology does not improve, you may then need ICSI to select a normal sperm.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
