Common "Infective Diarrhea" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Infective Diarrhea

Infectious diarrhea is usually due to microbial infections, which are acquired through the feco-oral route. Ingestion of contaminated food and water and unhygienic conditions are causative factors. Children are more susceptible. Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium difficle, E.coli, Shigella, Giardia lamblia, and Entamoeba histolytica are the most common species causing infectious diarrhea. Rotavirus, norovirus, and astrovirus also cause infectious diarrhea. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dysentery, fever, fatigue, weakness, dehydration, etc. Antimicrobial therapy with rehydration can treat. It can be prevented by practicing hygienic habits. Handwashing, thorough cooking of the meat, washing fruits and vegetables before use, and maintaining hygiene in and around the kitchen and bathroom must prevent such diseases.
