Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 23-year-old female doing my graduation. I am in doubt if I have a depressive disorder or not. I am an insomniac and have excessive sleep. I sleep at 7 AM and wake up at 1 PM, then while studying, I sleep again, which has never happened in my entire career. I have lost interest in things. I do not feel like talking to anyone, playing, or entertaining myself. I feel restless and tired at the same time. I do not feel good about myself. Lots of times, I thought of ways of suicide, but I will not do it. But, I wish I could end myself. Please help me. I am depressed.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

Kindly screen yourself for clinical depression. Do a self-rating test of depression like Zung's self-rating depression scale, which you can easily find online, and if it is indicative of moderate to severe depression, consult a psychiatrist in person for detailed evaluation and treatment. Besides, I suggest a few tips that can help:

1. Practice relaxation techniques like breath relaxation exercises daily.

2. Aerobic exercises for at least half an hour thrice a week helps.

3. Take a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids.

4. Share your feelings with family or close friends, as sharing helps a lot. You can also maintain a journal and daily log down your thoughts uncensored.

Remember every problem has a solution. You just need to try solving it, and help is just a step away.

Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Warm regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
