Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Before marriage, my period used to last for seven days. I had irregular periods. I used to get periods either for 45 days or 15 days. Either too early or too late. Doctors said it was polycystic ovary disease. After marriage, my periods became regular. When tested, the polycystic ovarian disease was gone. But after six months, again, they became irregular. We tried for pregnancy. But, after one year of my marriage doctor said there was a cyst in my ovaries and need surgery. We thought of taking two months for surgery, but the cyst resolved. Then after two months, I did not get my period. The doctor suggested a scan. They said I have endometrial polypoidal thickening and advised dilation and curettage test.

I got my period later but after one month, I started spotting and bleeding for two to three hours. After that no spotting and no periods. I did not get periods after that. Generally, If I start bleeding, it will continue for seven days, and the period will be over. It was the first time I had bleeding heavily for two to three hours, and within minutes it stopped completely. I am having sharp pain in my right ribs. Pain in my lower abdomen sometimes. A pregnancy test at home has done three days ago and the result came negative. I am afraid that it is a cyst again. What shall I do? I am worried. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

You have poly cystic ovarian syndrome and that is causing irregular periods and may be weight gain and abnormal hairs growth. Kindly follow the below guideline, it may greatly help you.

  1. You have to do a complete workup.
  2. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, food habits, and physical activities regularly.
  3. Limited consumption of less oil, sugar, salt, and spicy.
  4. Daily exercise, yoga, and walking to have a balanced body mass index and weight.
  5. Have fruits, vegetables, and water daily.
  6. Take Folic acid 0.4 mg daily.

If you are having any health issue better to have complete check up and treatment. I suggest you to take serum beta human gonatrophin test. if it comes negative then take tablet Norethisterone 10 mg twice daily from day 4 to day 25 for three months to regulate cycle. This will act as contraceptive as well but will regulate cycles. Have sex in fertile period after this three months course. Have strict check and take the treatment of thyroid,as thyroid abnormalities cannot only cause miscarriage but also can give congenital anomalies. Try to get rid of recreational drugs you and your partner, as these may reduces fertility. If you do not have enough sex hormones still, then it is better to take the tablet on day two of the period. Also, I suggest you take serum progesterone, serum testosterone, prolactin, serum insulin, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and thyroid function tests. Then, consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medication with their consent.

Keep follow up for further assistance.

Thank you.
