Does itching and ulcer on penis skin mean phimosis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I think I am suffering from balanitis. I have a little ulcer on the head of my penis. Penis foreskin becomes a little red and some white layer is there on it. I have itching problem on it. And also some cuts on the outer skin. Maybe it is phimosis. Please help.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Balanitis means inflammation of the glans penis. It could be because of fungal infection or herpes or allergic contact dermatitis. The treatment is different for each condition. It is difficult to prescribe any medication without seeing the clinical picture. Please attach a good quality picture so that I can make an appropriate diagnosis and suggest medication. Please avoid using itch guard, it has a steroid in it along with antifungal. Steroid will flare up the condition if it is because of infection.

Thank you for consulting me.

You can always reach me at icliniq.com.
