Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing an itching problem similar to ringworm for the past six months. I initially used a cream containing Ofloxacin, Ornidazole, Terbinafine, Clobetasol propionate. But now I have switched to cream having same ingredient of different brand. However, after applying this new cream, the itching seems to worsen. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. Based on the information you provided, it appears that you may have tinea cruris, which is a fungal infection in the groin area. I suggest you follow the below mentioned instructions:

  1. Keep the affected area dry at all times. Use Clotrimazole powder frequently to maintain dryness.
  2. Avoid scratching or itching the area. Change your undergarments regularly and steer clear of excessive sweating and damp clothing.
  3. Refrain from using any general or steroid creams as they can worsen the condition.
  4. Continue with the prescribed medication even after the symptoms subside. This ensures complete elimination of the fungal infection.
  5. Check for diabetes and thyroid issues, especially if the infection recurs despite proper treatment.

Tinea cruris is contagious, but it is not a life-threatening condition and carries minimal complications. It can be easily prevented by adhering to the measures mentioned above. Fungal infections thrive in humid and moist environments. Hence, maintaining dryness is key. Regarding treatment, it appears that the fungus might be resistant to Terbinafine or Fluconazole. I suggest you take a tablet of Itraconazole 200 mg twice a day and apply Ketoconazole cream twice daily to the affected area for one month. I suggest you consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
