Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 37 years old female. My CA level is 103 mm/dL, while the normal level is 35 mm/dL. I am undergoing IVF treatment, and I had hydrosalpinx and ovarian cyst surgery. My CA level was 20 mm/dL with two Lupron depot shots 3.75. I took five Lupron shots this year. A couple of months back, the fresh embryo cycle failed with high CA 103. Will IVF be a failure? My height is 5 feet, and my weight is 64.86 kg.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
A high CA (calcium) 125 mm/dL indicates an endometriotic cyst and damage to the ovarian surface due to repeated cysts. It cannot be said that IVF (in-vitro fertilization) will be a failure. A few studies suggest IVF success with higher values. Other factors like egg quality and endometrial health should also be looked into.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I want your opinion on the frozen embryo transfer cycle. Is it necessary to reduce the level of CA 125? I am trying FET with donor eggs. Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
No, reducing levels to less than 35 mm/dL of calcium for FET (frozen embryo transfer) is unnecessary. Since there is a history of endometriosis, it is difficult to get the value within normal limits as there is bound to be some damage or inflammation. Just enquire about the endometrium; if it looks healthy and with good flow, you can go ahead with FET. I hope this helps.
Thank you.
