Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have these bumps all over my legs, arms, and in the back of my legs. I have these bumps all the time, and no scrubs work. So, I was wondering if there is any treatment.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw your clinical pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You have follicle-oriented keratotic papules (bumps) on your thighs, and it is called keratosis pilaris. It is a condition where there will be an accumulation of blackish keratotic material at the opening of hair follicles. Bumps are seen over the arms, thighs, legs, and sometimes in the face. It is a harmless condition, common in the adolescent age group, and tends to be associated with eczema.

Treatment options include,

  1. Topical Salicylic Acid cream, Cerave with Salicylic acid. Apply to the affected areas at night.
  2. Topical Urea cream 10-20%.
  3. Chemical peel with Salicylic acid.
  4. Topical Ammonium lactate 12%, cream/lotion.

These treatment modalities help smoothen the skin, and you should expect around 30 to 40 % improvement.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
