Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a mother of a 13-year-old girl whose height is 5 feet and 2 inches and weight is 193 pounds. She fell a few weeks ago and injured her knee and as I am doing some research I think she broke her meniscus. We have not consulted the doctor yet and we really need a professional opinion. When she stands up on her knee, it pops and hurts while straightening the knee. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern. As you have told me about your child's knee injury I would like to tell you here that meniscus is an important structure in the knee region because it not only acts like a shock absorber but also participates in the even distribution of the body weight in the knee. Also, these soft tissue structures play an important role in maintaining knee biomechanics. So if you are having pain with recurrent swelling, locking of the knee, or a feeling of a foreign body inside, I suggest you get an MRI scan of the affected knee done and consult a sports medicine specialist or send your MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) images to me. Management will depend upon the grade and location of the tear if there is any. Till that time I suggest you continue-
2. Off and on anti-inflammatory medications if required.
Do not hesitate to get back to me should you need any further information.
Thank you.
