Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My hair does not grow since I was six years old. And before that, my hair growth is very slow. I have not cut my hair since I was 17 years old, fearing that it would never grow, and I am not on any medication for this. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please attach the picture to assess the scalp hair density. Do you have a receding hairline, diffuse hair loss, itchy, or flaky scalp? Do you experience hair thinning or dandruff? Do you have insufficient protein intake, lack of proper nutrition, vitamin deficiency, etc.? Do you experience stress? Do you have a chronic illness like thyroid issues, anemia, etc.? Please reply to my questions.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I do not have a receding hairline, but I have diffuse hair loss. I do have a flaky scalp, hair thinning, and dandruff. I take veggies and meat regularly and proteins occasionally. I may have some stress, but my hair is only up to my shoulders right form my six years of age. No chronic illness, thyroid issues, or anemia.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Take tablet Follihair once daily after breakfast for 30 days or tablet H.vit forte once daily for 30 days. Use Scalpe shampoo weekly twice for six weeks. Avoid oiling of scalp as oil acts as food for dandruff. Wash scalp on alternate days initially for 15 days, then weekly twice for six weeks. Use Minoxidil 2 percent lotion 1 ml twice daily for three months, then 1 ml at night for the next three months. Apply on hair thinning and hair loss site. Increase protein intake in your diet like nuts, milk, almonds, pulses, lentils, eggs, chicken, fish, dates, and curd. Take iron supplements or Orofer once daily after dinner if serum iron or ferritin levels are low. Expose yourself to sunlight at 8 AM for 10 minutes to get vitamin D. Eat healthy and nutritious food and avoid stress. Diffuse hair loss is usually seen in autoimmune disorder. Attach a picture of the scalp to assess hair density and grade of hair loss. Do you have any autoimmune disorder, surgical history, or drug history like Isotretinoin, antidepressants etc.? Did you use any cosmetic products on hair? Did you apply hot iron straightener, curlers, or dryer? Do you prefer tight hairstyles or high pony? Will you take hot showers? Did you fall sick in the last four to five months? Do you have bald patch or spot on your head?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No autoimmune disorder, surgical history, and cosmetic products usage on hair. I do use hot iron straightener sometimes before school. Usually, I do a high ponytail but for the last couple of months I use clips and I do shower in hot water. No sickness in the last four to five months. No bald patch or spots.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Stressful lifestyle, lack of proper nutrition (low iron, zinc, biotin, vitamin D, vitamin B12, calcium, protein), use of gels, hot iron straightener, tight pony, and hot showers are causes of hair damage or stunted hair growth in your case. Avoid Minoxidil 2 percent lotion application. Instead, tablet Hairbless (Minoxidil 5 percent and Aminexil), once daily after lunch for a month. Take tablet Follihair (multivitamin-biotin) once daily after breakfast for one month. Avoid gel application as the routine use of gel causes hair problems and damage. Reduce the use of hot iron straightener, curlers once or twice in six months is fine. It causes damage to root hair. Use X-gain shampoo (bite acetate, soy protein and jojoba oil) for your hair twice in a week. Use Scalpe shampoo on alternate days (until dandruff goes), then mild regular shampoo can be used. Hair growth will take three to four months. Medications will help in hair growth faster. Hair needs long term treatment, so we should follow it with some patience. Improve your diet and avoid any stress. Avoid hot shower on hair. It also causes hair damage. Use a broad bristle comb and avoid over the strenuous combing of hair. Avoid tight hairstyles and high ponytail it causes tractional alopecia and weakens the hair roots and leads to hair fall. Check Hemoglobin and serum iron, and ferritin levels and start iron supplements. Also, do CBC, TFT, hormonal assay, vitamin B12, vitamin D tests to rule out causes (and treatment of cause). Have a good sleep at least seven to eight hours. Eat proper food with green vegetables and fruits. Increase protein intake in your diet as mentioned previously. Never comb when hair is wet. Do not use hair dryer much. Avoid straightener use on regular basis. Use comb which has wide space between each tooth and tip should be blunt. Always use lukewarm water for hair wash, never use hot shower. Wash scalp on alternate days. Comb gently, do not rush through. I hope this helps.
