Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had a hard lump in my mouth since yesterday. There is very little pain, but I am freaking out about this because I used to chew tobacco and smoke for three years but clean for last year. So, please, can you confirm if I require a biopsy?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern since it is a hard lump. But, since you are saying that it is just one day old, it cannot be a chronic problem. Any form of oral cancer or precancerous condition takes some time to show. I would like to ask a few questions. Are you sure it just started one day ago? Any history of trauma due to sharp teeth, food, etc.? How often do you chew tobacco and smoke? Is it near a tooth that has a cavity? If you are worried, you can visit your nearest dentist for a thorough checkup, before going for a biopsy. As of now, a biopsy is not advisable as it looks like an acute case.
I hope this helps.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had something like a wound there. So, I visited many dentists and a cancer specialist. They confirmed it is nothing to worry about. So, I did not pay any attention to it but yesterday I noticed a hard lump there. There is no history of trauma. I used to smoke a year ago, but clean since then. Never touched it. It is a few inches away from a tooth with a cavity.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Now, since there was a wound or ulcer in the affected area and now it has become a hard lump, I would suggest you visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to rule out any pathology. He will palpate and check the lump and advise the treatment accordingly. As of now, do not worry.
I hope this helps.
