Why did my skin around the eyes become loose in 5 months?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am facing problem of loose skin around eyes. Ophthalmologists have described it to be eye allergy. They have suggested anti-inflammatory drops Systane Ultra, but it did not help. Is this a case of plastic surgery? Also, why has this happened so quickly over a period of five months? I have low confidence and not interested in anything. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your pictures (attachments removed to protect patient identity) and can appreciate the puffiness below both eyes. There are few causes of such puffiness, which I would like to explain in pointwise manner. Excessive sleepiness (very less sleep) is one of the most common causes of this. Too much exposure to bright light. As you would have noticed in film actors they have such puffiness due to continuous working under camera and other bright light. Protein in blood - Less protein (serum albumin and serum globulin) in blood also cause swelling around eye.

For that, you need to test serum proteins. Kidney functions - Sometimes, due to improper function of kidney, it can result in edema of face and around eye. For that, you need to get kidney function test (KFT). And yes, eczematous changes (allergy around eye) due to some cosmetics, powders and deodorant could be the reason. Other than this, continuous cold, tears, watering of eye are other less significant factors. Now coming to the treatment part.

First of all avoid all factors which I have mentioned above. Get good sleep and have salad and vegetables. If it is some kind of allergy just use Fluticasone cream once in the night for ten days. Apply a good moisturizer during the day. Get these important tests done. Do Serum proteins and kidney function test and Complete blood checkup and thyroid test.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.
