How to treat the whitish mark on the inner cheek?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a whitish mark on the inner cheek. I am also experiencing pain in the wisdom tooth. I used to eat betel nuts, but now I have stopped it. How to get this treated?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern regarding dental health. In such a case, I would like to tell you that these are precancerous lesions of white lines on the buccal mucosa due to the habit of chewing betel nuts. It can be OSMF (oral submucus fibrosis - rigid jaw and muscles and unable to open the mouth). It should be detected earlier by inspection, palpation, and physical examination. So, consult your nearby oral physician for the same and the problem of the wisdom tooth. Your oral physician will guide you for needful investigations and treatment. For relief in both of these, follow his or her advice. Till the time of consultation, take painkillers for temporary relief of pain. Quit the habits if any other.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
