Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

The patient is a 79 year old male with a history of fall. Computed tomography (CT) and laboratory results showed no abnormality detected (NAD). But, the patient was treated for cerebral vascular accident (CVA). Now, the patient complains of numbness or paresis below waist. What would be the best option now?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I read your query and understand your concerns. In my view, it is possible that the patient suffered TIA (transient ischemic attack) resulting in a fall and the vascular event was not detected on computed tomography (CT) scan. I mean to say that although according to CT he does not need treatment, but your doctor may have favored the clinical phenomenon as a marker of CVA (cerebrovascular accident) and started treatment. The other part of your query again points toward the CVA as he reports now weakness of the lower part of the body. In this scenario, ideally magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) should be done for the patient and if any lesion found he should be treated accordingly. Also, if possible, send the patient's CT report.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
