Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently on the Depo Provera injection and want to know if I can just stop getting it? I do not feel like it is beneficial to me anymore. What can I expect if I do stop getting it?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement you are on Depo Provera injection. Your query is about stop getting of Depora Provera injection and the after effects of stop getting it.

According to your query, you can stop using Depora Provera at any time in your life. It is suggested that you should stop Depo Provera use after receiving injections for two years. In your case, you are on Depo Provera for the last seven years. So, you can stop receiving Depo Provera now. After stop receiving Depo Provera injections, you may just have some irregular spotting or you may not have any bleeding issues at all. Bleeding and spotting may continue upto 11-14 weeks after stop getting Depo Provera. Usually you get your menstrual back cycle back within 6-18 months after you stop taking the Depo Provera injections.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Will I be able to go back to how I was before starting Depo injections. Will I lose the gained weight and have less sad moods, etc?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

According to your query, yes, you will be able to go back to how you were before starting Depo Provera injections. Depo Provera is a hormone-containing medication, so weight gain, alternation of moods may happen as side effects of it. This medication prevents your body from making hormones involved in ovulation and menstruation. After stopping taking Depora Provera, it can take some time for your body to return to the normal production of these hormones. So hormonal changes may occur in your body during this period. You may experience some symptoms like cramping, mood swings, changing of weight, headache, irregular bleeding, etc., but these types of features will last for three or four months at best. Even someone may not have any such type of symptoms at all.

So do not be worried. By taking a proper balanced diet and doing exercises regularly, you can strictly control your weight in this period if you are getting obese.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
