Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have trouble remembering things. I am unable to recall what I ate yesterday. Even my son has the same problem; he cannot remember what he learned five minutes ago. As a result, he is scoring very low marks in his exams. Is this indicative of a dementia-related issue? Please guide us on how to overcome this. Is there any treatment or therapy available to address this?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for seeking help from a psychiatrist. I understand your concerns about your son, and it is unlikely that he has dementia. To enhance memory, both you and your son should consider incorporating the following lifestyle changes. Additionally, I suggest you follow a few steps:

  1. Engage in daily exercises for 30 to 45 minutes, such as going for a walk.
  2. Practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. Sit comfortably and focus on your normal breathing without trying to stop or force your thoughts. This will improve concentration and memory.
  3. Consume healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.
  4. Ensure you drink enough water.
  5. Dedicate quality time with friends and family every day.
  6. Pursue creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, languages, or musical instruments.
  7. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep every night.
  8. Refrain from tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.
  9. If symptoms persist after following this advice for four to six weeks, it is advisable to consult the nearest psychologist for an IQ (intelligence quotient) assessment.

I hope I have answered your question.

    Thank you.

Investigations to be done

The investigations to be done include a complete blood count (CBC), thyroid profile, and levels of vitamin B12 and vitamin D3.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
