Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am messaging on behalf of my wife. She has been having problems with her periods for some time now. It is more mental than physical for her. She had an eating disorder in the past, and I wondered if that could have any effects on her hormones or periods now?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Menstrual irregularities are associated with physical as well as emotional stress and hormonal disturbance as well. As you mentioned, she had an eating disorder history and emotional issues. These are some of the reasons for her menstrual disturbance. However, all aspects need to be examined to come to a conclusion. I suggest seeking a gynecologist’s consultation in person which is the best thing you should do. Along with physical examination, medical history, family history should be assessed. If required, your doctor might suggest some diagnostic tests that might include imaging tests and blood tests to do hormonal assays to better understand your wife’s condition. Once the underlying cause is known, she will be guided with appropriate management by a gynecologist.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
