Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Based on my period calendar, I should have my menstruation yesterday, and I had unprotected sex on day before yesterday. Until now, I do not have menstruation, and I took the birth control pill as an emergency pill three days after that. Is there a big chance for me to get pregnant?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Cycles could be late due to sudden weight gain or weight loss, strict diet, strenuous exercise, hormonal or drug intake, illness, hormonal imbalance, stress, anxiety, etc., if your cycles have been regular. One or two days before periods are not the fertile period of the cycle, so there are fewer chances of pregnancy. But the pill is hormonal contraception that affects the normal menstrual cycle to inhibit conception, and it was taken three days after unprotected sex. Then it interacts with body hormones, and cycles now should be in the form of withdrawal bleed within 1 to 2 weeks of post-pill. So wait and do not have other medications to interact further. So menstrual induction is required if you cannot get periods after two weeks. Then after having the tablet Primolute N 10 mg twice daily for five days again, you will have to wait for one to two weeks for bleeding. In this process, periods could be irregular due to the effects of hormones in the pill. As soon as you get rid of it, things will be better.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
