What are the effects of Mifepristone and Misoprostol?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Today is the fifth day after my missed periods. I had Mifepristone and after 25 hours, I had Misoprostol. The abdomen started paining and started with white discharge but no bleeding yet, I had tablet yesterday at 3 PM exact, but why is there no bleeding still?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
How are you doing today?
I hope you had a positive pregnancy test. Or you had a scan showing the gestation sac. I mean to say that I hope pregnancy was confirmed. The ideal step after confirming a pregnancy inside the uterus is to have tablet Mifepristone 200 mg orally. This will dislodge a pregnancy from the uterine lining. You will not have any bleeding, only mild abdominal cramps and features of gastritis. After 48 hours of this pill, that is after complete dislodging of the embryo has occurred, tablet Misoprostol 200 mcg 2 to 3 tablets have to be taken orally or vaginally after wetting it. Bleeding will start after this, it may take 2 to 3 days after the pill.
If still no bleeding, you have to doubt if you were really pregnant. Now all you need to do is wait for 1 to 2 days. If still no bleeding, check urine if you are pregnant. (Pregnancy test is positive one day after missed period). Do not take Mefipristone without confirmation of pregnancy inside the uterus, if in the tube, you will bleed internally). Have scan to see for pregnancy inside the uterus after two weeks. Then repeat this schedule.
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
