There are mucus and blood in stools. Why?

I have been suffering since last month. There is a white mucus layer on the stool, there were two drops of blood after stool had passed and after five days at night I had stool with mucus and the next day I went to washroom four times with mild pain in abdominal and I went to the doctor he prescribed me Ciplox TZ, and Vyzilock and one medicine for acidity and after two days because of mild pain I went to meet a specialist, he also prescribed one pro-biotic capsule of dr. Ready, one tablet for acidity and shine 10, and after 15 days, I was again suffering from diarrhea, went to the washroom 15 times, and recovered. And again, after a few days, I was suffering from severe colon infection.

I had recovered from the infection, but not 100 percent, and now there is a white layer of mucus on my stool, and there is a very light blood spot, like lace on 1 inch, with, blood dot on the stool is there. I have no symptoms of anus infection or itching, or pain in the rectum.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I have reviewed your complete history and understand that you have an ongoing infection within the lower part of your large bowel, which is called as rectum. Medically, it is termed as proctitis, i.e., inflammation of the rectum. The blood and mucus, which you describe as a whitish layer, is common among patients suffering from proctitis.

I have seen that you have taken some antibiotics; however, it seems the duration of antibiotics was not okay, and the Ciprofloxacin (antibiotics) that you have been prescribed is no longer effective in your case. Other acid suppressant medications would not help you much with problems relating to the rectum. So, I want you to start a three-week course of an antibiotic that is very safe and does not have significant side effects, except that in some patients it could cause mild diarrhea. It is very safe. Tablet Rifxamin 200 mg thrice daily for three weeks. Avoid any other medications.

When you come back to me in the next one to two weeks. I hope that your symptoms will be gone by then would go away. In case that does not happen, then I would ask you to get some stool and blood tests done and would further modify your treatment.
