What can cause twitching in shoulder while walking?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 32-year-old woman. I recently saw a doctor for my shoulder twitching. It happens whenever I walk and move around my body. I just cannot relax. The doctor prescribed me 2 mg Benzhexol tablets daily, did a blood test, and said my blood test results are normal. I have been taking the Benzhexol tablets for the past five days daily, and it has worked on me then. But now, I am experiencing involuntary twitching again, and my body cannot relax again. Have I been prescribed the wrong medication? Is my body building a resistance towards the Benzhexol? Should I take a higher dosage of the Benzhexol?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Sorry to know regarding your symptoms. And twitching of shoulders can be because of various reasons, namely vitamin D deficiency, vitamin B 12 deficiency, anxiety, and benign fasciculation syndrome. Since you have not mentioned the side of the shoulder twitching, I assume that both sides have that twitching. So the most common causes of both sides involvement are vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency, which is treatable.

Another cause also is anxiety, for which Benzhexol will not help. Benzhexol is used for movement disorders but not in particular twitching, it might help, but it is not a sure shot treatment. The best option available for you will be taking vitamin B12 and vitamin D supplements and getting the anxiety levels under control. The best way to control anxiety is by deep breathing, abdominal exercises, yoga.

It does not seem to be concerning for a young person like you, and you will be fine in a month. Sometimes anxiety can also be controlled by anxiolytics example, Clonazepam, Alprazolam, and Etizolam. All three of the above medicines cannot be prescribed by teleconsult as per the guidelines given to us. Do you have cramps or twitchings of the calves?
