Can myocardial ischemia impair heart function?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 73-year-old father had his ECG today. The report shows PR 160, QRSD 91, QT 298, QTc 377, P axis 53, QRS 20, T 45, and heartbeat 96 BPM. He has had diabetes for 20 years and has no previous heart problems.

Currently, he is using the tablet Telmisartan 40 mg for blood pressure and the tablet Glyciphage SR 500 mg twice daily for diabetes.

Can you please explain his ECG report to me?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I have read your father's reports, including the ECG or electrocardiogram (attachments were removed to protect the patient's identity).

What is the reason for him to get an ECG (electrocardiogram) done? The ECG shows mild heart changes that indicate ischemia.

I suggest the treatment plan below to him. Take a tablet of Metoprolol (12.5 mg) once daily after dinner, a tablet of 0.25 mg Alprazolam once daily for ten days after dinner, and a capsule of vitamin D3 60000 IU (Cholecalciferol) once a week before food.

I also suggest that he test his HbA1c and vitamin D3 levels, take a stress echocardiography test, avoid smoking, and go for a 30-minute walk daily.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert after ten days with the reports.

Thank you.
