Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from myopia (-3.5 and -4 ). My age is 19 years old. Can I use cod liver oil?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand that you are suffering from the myopia of - 3.5D in your right eye and - 4D in your left eye. In case you want to use cod liver oil for reducing your glass power, I can tell you that it will not help. Myopia is a disease involving the refractive index, the curvature of the components of the eye, and the length of the eyeball in the disease-free eyes. Consuming cod liver oil will not prevent or reverse any of the above-mentioned problems. Measures to reduce myopia progression include avoiding holding objects very close to your eye. The more the near work, the more will be myopia. Visit your ophthalmologist for a yearly check of the power of your glasses. There are various options for refractive correction such as ReLex Smile, LASIK, etc., after your power stabilizes or you have completed your education. But for a 19-year-old, glasses are the best option, with occasional contact lens wear of less than six hours a day. In case you still want to consider consuming cod liver oil, please do so under a physician's guidance as excessive intake of vitamin A can damage your liver.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
