Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 37-year-old male and have been facing problems seeing distant objects since I was 15. I checked my eyes ten years ago and found the power of spherical minus 1.75 and cylindrical 1.5 in both eyes. I started using glasses and checking my eyes at regular intervals for two years after that and found no change in the power. Till today I am not been facing any problems, but when I normally checked my eyes today, the doctor said that the power had changed to minus 2.5 and minus 3.25 spherical and minus 1.75 and minus 1 cylindrical. I doubt whether this can happen or if I should check it again because I am comfortable with my current glasses. Is there any chance myopia can worsen after being constant for 2.5 years? Is there still any chance that my eye condition can be improved? Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Yes, it is normal if your power has changed. I would like to ask certain important questions. Do you have a problem while reading? Did you check your near vision? Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I do not have any problem while reading with my current glasses, but still, I got a report of worsened eyesight. So I am confused. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
According to the attachments (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), you have sent, I would like to notify you that previously you read till 6/9 on the Snellen chart. Still, now you can read 6/6. However, myopia (near-sightedness) is better if undercorrected, so if you do not have any issues with current glasses, like watering eyes, strain, or pain, you can surely continue this. Thank you
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am preparing for the police service exam, and there is a criterion not to exceed the myopia of 4D. On my previous prescription, it was under it, but perhaps I am not eligible for the present prescription. So I am much tensed about not being eligible. So I am attaching the criterion. Is there any chance of improvement?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
But in any case, you have not crossed 4 dioptres. It is written you can have 6/6 or 6/9 vision. I need to know what your vision with your current spectacles is. Did you check it? Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
But it has been written that one should not cross 4D, including cylindrical. So I thought by adding cylindrical power with spherical, I crossed 4D. So I am not eligible. They checked me with glasses, so I do not know what my vision is with glasses in medical terms.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Did anyone give you an unfit certificate yet? It is better to get your vision checked with your current glasses. If that is so, you may exceed 4 diopters' power. Then sorry to say that, but they will consider you unfit. Those are certain rules. Get your color vision, and near vision checked too. If possible, do send it to me. Thank you
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am not given an unfit certificate till now. But according to the criterion given, does it mean to add the spherical factor with the cylindrical factor to exceed 4D, or each of them should exceed 4D to make one unfit? I am confused, so I asked you as an expert. Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Ideally, it should not be like that. Myopia addition to cylindrical vision, is vague as myopia, and cylindrical vision is altogether different. But still, that might be possible if they say so because they have rules for each department that must be followed. You can go and check your vision with your current glasses. If that is 6/9, then you are fit again. Thank you
