Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
One of my toenails is brittle and has a light brown spot on it. There is no spot on the skin, as when I cut the nail, it had the spot on itself. I have attached the image. Please help me, as I have learned that it may be melanoma. I also have tinea. Could it be related to that?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I examined your image (the attachments are removed to protect the patient's identity).
With your descriptions and a given image. It seems you have onychomycosis.
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails that may involve any component of the nail unit, including the matrix, bed, or plate
Direct microscopy of a 20 % potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparation can screen for fungi.
Medications for onychomycosis can be administered topically or orally.
A combination of topical and systemic treatment increases the cure rate.
I suggest Efinaconazole 10 % topical solution or Amorolfine nail lacquer solution twice a weeks application plus Itraconazole 200 mg twice daily for seven consecutive days in a month for three consecutive months.
I hope you find it helpful.
Kind regards.
