Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I suffer from big open pores, four to five red and pus-filled acne, and some bumps on my face. What should I do?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
As per the history, it may be acne of grade two. They develop due to sudden hormonal fluctuations in the body, especially among teenagers and adolescents. Acne among adults is also common, and other factors include imbalanced diet, climatic conditions due to genetic factors, usage of skin care products, and underlying conditions like PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), which are common among women and may or may not present with menstrual irregularities and would need a gynecology consultation for ruling out its presence.
I suggest the following.
1. Apply Salicylic acid 2 % and Glycolic acid face wash in the morning and night. Apply, gently massage your face, especially around the affected area, in a circular motion and wash off within one minute.
2. Apply Clindamycin benzoyl peroxide 2.5 % gel after using the face wash on a clean, dry face in the morning and at night. It should be applied as a spot treatment on the pimples only.
3. Take tablet Ascorbic acid 500 mg twice daily after dinner and breakfast for one month. Avoid consuming milk and hot water while using the tablet.
4. Avoid oily food, milk, dairy products, red meat, and sweets.
5. Consume more fruits and vegetables and drink at least ten glasses of water daily.
6. Take capsule Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily after food for five days. This should not be taken if you have any previous history of allergies to antibiotics of a similar class.
7. Take tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg twice daily before food for five days to prevent acidity due to the antibiotic.
Please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.
Acne can be on and off; each time they appear, you may use the above medication (except for the antibiotics, for which consultation is required). For most individuals, it will stabilize and may stop appearing once they grow older. However, ruling out underlying PCOS may be needed to eliminate the root cause of acne.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
