Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a sexual encounter with a prostitute who seemed to be in a healthy condition and free from diseases. I had oral contact with her vaginal fluids, though I did not have any intercourse or kissing with her. After four days of a sexual encounter, I developed a sore throat with a 99-degree Fahrenheit fever and throat pains when I swallowed something. I am worried that I have contracted HIV. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Unprotected sexual activities do lead to multiple STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), including HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).

But we need to be aware of the other STDs that can spread through this mode, such as syphilis, herpes, and gonorrhea. As you have mentioned that your partner appeared symptom-free, the chances of such infections are even more low. Your symptoms are not indicative of HIV, as it takes three months for the symptoms to show. Kindly mention if this was your first activity, if you are married, and if you have tested yourself before

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

It was not my first time, and I was involved in sex many times in the past two years, every time with protection. Somehow, unluckily, I contracted genital warts three months ago and have undergone warts removal surgery from a skin specialist doctor. I tested myself for HIV and syphilis about three months ago, and the test proved to be fortunately non-reactive. Can you please even tell me how I treat genital warts completely and stop from passing them on to my future wife? What are the symptoms of various STDs, and should I get tested once again?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

I can understand your concern.

It is always safe to maintain a monogamous relationship, given the risks associated with STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). Diseases such as Gonorrhea andchlamydia present with urethral discharge, while others such as herpes present with fluid-filled blisters and ulcers. With regards to HIV, the symptoms are very subtle, initially present with repeated fevers, weight loss, and diarrhea.

    • If you continuously tend exposure, then you may need to be tested every three months.
    • Opt for electrosurgery to completely remove the warts so that your future partner has no such risk.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
