Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother is 47 years old, height 5 feet 2 inches weight 174 Ibs, suffering from osteoarthritis and knee pain. After consultation doctor advised for MRI the report shows:

1. Oblique tear of the posterior horn of medial meniscus extending to the inferior articular surface (Type III signal).

2. Intra substance cleavage tear of the posterior horn and anterior horn of lateral meniscus not extending to articular surface Type II signal.

One doctor advised for arthroscopy while another said that she is also suffering from osteoarthritis making results unpredictable after arthroscopy as no one knows the source of pain as this is a degenerative disease. The doctor advised physical therapy. Last year she underwent surgery for uterus removal. We are in a dilemma what to do? Please I need suggestions on what should we do please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. The decision of arthroscopy or joint replacement all depends upon her x-rays. If the x-ray does not show a lot of degenerative changes then arthroscopy is a good option, If x-rays show degenerative changes then arthroscopy will not help. I suggest you send me your x-ray, I will see it and give an accurate decision. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
