Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have osteoarthritis in my shoulders. Which glucosamine products do not interact with Clopidogrel? What medication or supplement can I take?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I am assuming, based on the drugs, you are in your middle ages. Without knowing your medical condition and why you are on Clopidogrel, I am assuming that you may have a cardiac condition that needs antiplatelet medicines. Also, arthritis of the shoulder is rather uncommon, and what type and grade of arthritis is it, rheumatoid, traumatic, or OA? If arthritis is advanced, then glucosamine is not indicated. Please note there is no absolute contraindication of taking these two drugs together as long as your doctor is aware, then all that is needed is to take the two and have your coagulation profile, including bleeding time checked for the first two to three weeks. Theoretically, glucosamine may increase the risk of bleeding. People with bleeding disorders, those taking anti-clotting or anti-platelet medication (such as Warfarin, Clopidogrel, and Ticlid), or people taking supplements that may increase the risk of bleeding should not take glucosamine unless under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
(such as Warfarin, Clopidogrel, and Ticlid), People taking supplements that may increase the risk of bleeding should not take glucosamine unless under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
