Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

About a month ago, I purchased a set of four top and bottom retainers (eight total) that I wear to keep my teeth in place after braces. Earlier this week, I had to get a root canal done, but I have not yet had a crown made for the molar. When I get the crown, will it alter the shape or size of my tooth enough that I will have to buy a new set of retainers entirely? They were costly, and I cannot afford to get more soon. Alternatively, is it possible to delay getting the crown for the tooth, and for how long?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

For the root canal done tooth, you can not leave it like that; it must be protected, or you will end up with a new problem. What you can do to continue using the same retainers - is to request your dentist to shape the crown in the best possible way to fit the retainer. Secondly, you can ask the person where you got retainers from if some minor corrections in the same retainer are possible. There are fewer chances of using the same appliances with the newly introduced crown, yet I have suggested the best way out.

I hope I am clear to you. Do revert back for more queries.
