Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a bit concerned about some discharge I am having recently. I first had a bloody or mucus discharge five days after ovulation, and now after two days. I have very dull cramps in my right lower abdomen and once again the same discharge, twice this evening. I only sometimes have a bloody discharge, usually a day or so around ovulation. I typically track and try to know when my body is doing what. It just seems a bit more at the moment, and if I have cramps, it is usually during ovulation which was seven days ago. I was last intimate with my partner five days before ovulation. I do not take the pill, and we practice natural family planning to prevent pregnancy. I still have some very dull cramps this evening and feel I need to wear something to catch further discharge. Is this perhaps hormone-related or a cyst? I am not taking any medications other than vitamin B.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. Firstly, I request you to adopt some other method of birth control as the natural method is not a very reliable method of birth control. Even the precum has a certain sperm quantity, which can lead to pregnancy. Now coming to your discharge problem, it appears to be hormonal, but there is no need to panic. Please tell me certain additional information so that I can help you better.

1) When was your last menstrual period, and how were the flow and duration?

2) How many days cycle you have, like 28 or 30 or 32 days?

3) From when (how many months or weeks) are you facing this discharge issue?

4) Do you have any smell or itching?

With this information, I can advice you better. Do not worry. I am always there for you. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your response.

I discussed your first advice with my partner, and we greatly appreciate this insight and will find a solution together for better birth control. My last menstrual cycle started before 21 days and was for five days. I am naturally regulated, and my cycle alters between 28 or 29 days of length. I usually have cramps the day before and the first day of menstruation. Last year I had some issues due to stress, but now I am very aware of when I will start and do not have too many complications. Typically menstruation lasts between three to five days, with four days being the most common. I never had this type of discharge at this time in my cycle, as far as I can remember. I have tracked my cycle for over eight years, and usually, it is right around ovulation that I might have a bit of bloody discharge. For the last two to three days, this has happened a total of four times. I still have a bit of dull cramping, but so far, no extra discharge, and I am monitoring it. I do not have any other symptoms like itching. Just a bit of dull pain similar to what I would expect around my period (which should start in seven days). Thank you for your follow-up. I greatly appreciate it.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Mild bloody discharge with dull pain in the mid cycle can be due to ovulation. It can be due to cervical erosion or any ovarian cyst, which causes a slight hormonal imbalance. You can get your local examination with a pap smear to rule out any abnormality after your periods. If you develop some abnormal bleeding in this cycle, get an ultrasound scan to rule out any ovarian cyst.

Take care.
