When can I expect the red rash near penis to cure completely?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I got a red rash near the tip of the penis. The doctor told me to use Mupirocin T-bact, I started applying once a day and it has been 10 days. I want to know how much time it can take for a complete cure?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic. It has to be used twice a day for two weeks for infectious conditions like impetigo. Also, it depends on the extent of involvement and severity. Since I have not seen the rash, I cannot really tell you how much time it can take to heal the rash. Please attach your clinical picture so that I can see and make a diagnosis that helps me to comment further.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have attached the images. Kindly have a look and explain.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can see the rash affecting the glans (attachment removed to protect patient identity). If this is today's picture, then you will have to continue Mupirocin twice a day for another week. Before applying Mupirocin, clean the area with warm saline water using cotton gauze (not just cotton, always use cotton gauze). Do you have itching? If yes, then it is good to add Clotrimazole 1 % cream along with Mupirocin.

Thank you.
