What could be done to manage phimosis in children?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son has phimosis on his penis. Should I buy phimosis steroid cream for him, and start the treatment now, or wait until he is at a specific age to start treatment? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, if you are sure it is phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin covering the head of the penis), you can buy the steroid cream available over-the-counter (OTC) and apply it daily, as it helps reduce inflammation and soften the skin, thus helping relieve the symptoms.

If you do not see any improvement, see a doctor for a thorough evaluation.

Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Thank you.
