Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had protected sex (condom) with my boyfriend last month, and my last period date was a week before my intercourse; I still have not gotten my periods. I am worried and anxious. Is there any chance of pregnancy with a condom? My periods cycle usually is 26 to 27 days. I did a pregnancy test in the morning today twice. It came negative both times.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. To get pregnant, the sperms have to be released inside the vagina of the female. The sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending upon the ovulation pattern of the female. The fertilized egg is then required to be implanted inside the female's uterus. When all this happens successfully, a female is said to have conceived. Since you were using a condom, sperm could not have been released unless there had been a contraceptive failure.

Further, the intercourse was a week after your periods, so most likely, you were not ovulating, and hence eggs were not available. Also, you have done two tests for pregnancy after almost 20 days of intercourse, and that has come negative, so there is no possibility of pregnancy. So based on the above, let me assure you that you are not pregnant. If you have any history of irregular periods, please let me know. You need not take the stress and stay happy. If periods do not come in a week, I will prescribe the necessary medications. If you have any questions or information to share, please let me know.

Do not worry; I am always there for you.

God bless.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you so much. No doctor, I do not have any history like this, but due to some family issues and career issues, I am depressed, and I faced anxiety issues during this month. I have a big fear of change which I encountered this month which makes me depressed, and I also have an anxiety disorder. So I did a pregnancy test even in the evening today. Also, I did three tests, and all came negative.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the update. So sorry to hear that you have been facing issues on the family and career front. Anxiety and stress are also responsible for delays in periods. Stress alone causes a delay in periods for almost 25 % of females worldwide. So do not take the pressure. Please be cheerful, and you shall get the periods soon. I do not want you to depend on medicine for periods so let us wait for a week as pregnancy is not there, and the delay is primarily due to stress. Just do not worry; I am always there for you.

God bless.
